A swingingly good time

Breakfast today was more shredded wheat, once again Hannah ate absolutely tons of them - although she wasn't so keen on the ones that hadn't soaked up a fair amount of milk. Tomorrow I think she can have more milk on the cereal, to moisten them a bit more.

For lunch she ate beans on toast, along with part of a whole pear. The pear was a bit crunchy, rather than juicy, so she didn't make all that much progress with it despite managing to eat chunks out of the side and top. Beans were a popular choice, and she even managed quite a bit of the toast, too. Pre lunch she finished an open bag of cheesy poofs - well there were only four of them left!

Apparently beans on toast can be quite tiring though:

Dinner was a cheese triangle sandwich, two slices of melon, and a raspberry fromage frais. Hannah seemed really hungry though so as well as all that she also managed three or four apple rice cakes and a fistful of raisins. Didn't have time to cook anything for dinner, as we were late back from the park where we'd been playing on the swings, slide and dog onna spring (well only Hannah went on the first two, and I only went on the latter with her because she was refusing to hold on!).

Millions of peaches, peaches for tea

Yesterday was a pretty good day, Hannah started off with a big bowl of cheerios again, eating loads. For lunch she had a marmite sandwich (love it or hate it, right?) and a banana, and followed this up with potato wedges for tea. Pudding was a nice fresh peach, which Hannah sat and munched her way through (after chucking her potato wedges on the floor mainly). There was nothing left of the peach except for the stone in the end, so I gave her a second peach and the same thing happened! Personally I didn't think that much of those peaches, they weren't the nice sweet ones but were a bit sour/tart tasting. Didn't seem to bother Hannah though and she happily ate her way through the pair of them.

The poor girl is still being fobbed off with rubbish meals though, I think she's looking forward to staying with Grandma next week as she stands more chance of being well fed!

Today was cheerios for breakfast again, same old same old. Lunch was a cheese and cucumber sandwich and a peach again - this time the peach ended up on the floor mostly. She also had a few raisins on her tray while I was making the sandwich, but these also ended up mostly on the floor - very unusual since Hannah normally goes for raisins in a big way. For dinner she had beans on toast, the first time she's had them for absolutely ages, and boy were they popular! She sat and carefully picked all the beans off the toast and ate them, then came back for the toast and sucked all the bean juice out of the bread. She was funny to watch, especially since she's figured out that sucking her fingers and hand after she's been handling beans also tastes good.

She's recently started opening her hand right up to get to the last bit of food inside it, so I quite often see her with a hand plastered across her face. It's got more frequent over the past two weeks, and now is pretty much a daily thing.

Poorly Poppet

Well Hannah's got a stinker of a cold, it's official. And the fab medised is now not recommended for under 2s, apparently it's new advice and doctors have said there's no evidence to show that it, or anything similar, actually helps treat the cold symptoms. But since we've got half a bottle of it left, she's been dosed up with it regardless, and at least it's brought her temp down. She's been very limp and cuddly all afternoon (extra cuddles for mummy, hurrah!).
Anyway, onto the food she's eaten today. Shreddies for breakfast, and quite a few of them too, although not quite the huge amount she normally manages. It was probably the best meal of the day.

For lunch Hannah had two slices of beans on toast. She ate probably half of the beans and a quarter of the toast I gave her, but drank a huge amount of water - I had to refill her sippy cup part way through the meal. I think that must be down to her cold, probably because she's breathing through her mouth and it and her throat are getting dryer than normal. It's not affecting her smiling muscles though:

Tea was two slices of melon, a banana and four cherry tomatoes. She ate the cherry tomatoes pretty well, managed just less than one slice of melon and half the banana at most. I gave her the cherry tomatoes whole this time, she seemed to like biting into them and squirting the juice and seeds into her mouth, even if the tartness did make her judder more than once! It was very funny to watch, her reaction was so extended :oD

Hopefully she'll be feeling a bit better tomorrow though.

Beany Baby

Hannah had cranberry wheats for breakfast again today - Neil gave her an enormous bowlful of them and she ate the lot again.

For lunch I made cauliflower cheese for all of us. Hannah sucked the cheese sauce off every bit of cauli and did eat some pieces of cauli itself. She had some raisins and a banana for pudding, too.

Dinner tonight was beans on toast - an entire half sized tin of beans spread across two slices of toast. As normal Hannah carefully picked each bean off the toast, ate it and when she'd finished with that she sucked the bean juice out of the toast, then finally got round to eating the toast itself. No pudding, I figured all those beans were enough for anyone!

Cherries, cashew nuts and other things

Friday:
In a break with tradition, Hannah had shreddies for breakfast. I naively thought they were just wheat with nothing added, but it turns out they've got sugar and other things in too. So they won't be making a terribly regular appearance on the breakfast table even if they make a nice change from cheerios and shredded wheat. Hannah certainly thought they made a nice change, she ate absolutely tons of them.

For lunch she had an organix gingerbread man, some saucy tomato noughts and crosses (corn crisps), a couple of breadsticks and some halved cherry tomatoes. I gave her the gingerbread man because she was creating as I was being slack and late with her lunch, it kept her going for long enough that I could grab the rest of the offerings.

Dinner was baked beans - served on a spoon, which wasn't as messy as you might have thought - plus some halved cherries and a banana. Hannah wasn't really sure what to make of the cherries, she sucked at them a bit but didn't really eat much of them. Cherry juice dribbled down her chin and all over the bib, it all looked quite gory!

Saturday:

Breakfast today was shreddies again, and again they were very well received. For lunch Hannah ate a corn thin with pureed avocado spread on it, a breadstick, some saucy tomato noughts and crosses, an apple and raspberry cereal bar, a banana and a slice of melon. She went at the avocado covered corn thin with gusto, although most of the topping seemed to end up on her face rather than in her belly. She did attempt to use the banana and cereal bar to wipe it off again, with mixed success :o) the flannel at the end of the meal did a much better job!

For dinner, Neil gave her some halved cherry tomatoes, a few cashew nuts, a fromage frais, some halved cherries, a slice of bread with cream cheese. The tomatoes came out of the fridge, and were a bit cold for Hannah to start with, but she went back to them once she'd eaten the bread and cream cheese and sucked all the insides out plus ate some of the flesh. She got on pretty well with the cashew nuts, too - the first time she's tried them. She seemed to really like biting into them and hearing them crunch - new teeth coming in useful! Naturally she ate the entire fromage frais, and was more enthusiastic about the cherries today than she was yesterday.

Nutty about Fruit

Breakfast today was en famille, and Hannah ate bitesize shredded wheat. I also gave her one of my asda cranberry wheats, and after tasting it she tried to find the cranberry in all of her (cranberry free) shredded wheats. Is that mean???

For lunch she had about half a ton of fruit. There were two slices of galia melon, a (tinned) pear, and a banana. As well as this fruit extravaganza there were two or three yogurt covered pecan nuts. It was the first time we've given her nuts, and we weren't sure how she'd get on, but she managed just fine. Mind you, mostly she just sucked all the yogurt covering off the nuts and discarded them. It was just like toast all over again :oD

Dinner was a slice of beans on toast, another pear, and a rusk. She ate the lot, and drank a lot of the water in her sippy cup too. All in all it's been a very good day indeed - we'll have to see what tomorrow brings.

Baked sweet potato and philly

Thankfully the teething seems over with for the moment, although I've discovered that Hannah's teeth are remarkably sharp and you really don't want your fingers anywhere near her mouth if you can avoid it.
Breakfast today was once again a bowl of cheerios, with full fat milk on. Must try a different cereal next time we buy some, even I'm getting bored of cheerios, and I don't eat them every day!

For lunch I baked a sweet potato, then scooped out the flesh from it and mixed half of it with some philly cheese, the other half with philly and beans. Then I placed it back into the potato skins and gave it Hannah. She seemed to love it, as you can see here:

She followed the sweet potato (of which she ate precisely no skin, naturally) with a raspberry fromage frais, and by the way she was smacking her forearms on the tray while the spoon was loaded for her, liked it a fair bit.

She didn't really get tea today, as we were out, but she did enjoy sharing my slice of carrot cake. I decided the icing would be bad for her, so I selflessly ate all that myself, but she didn't seem bothered :o)

Post-Christmas Update

Time has been flying by and I haven't managed to update the blog with what Hannah's been up to for the past couple of days, so here goes!

On Thursday she had her first taste of trifle at lunchtime, and about chomped our hands and arms off trying to race us to the spoon. A definite fan, it's just a shame I only make it about once a year. It wasn't only trifle for lunch though, don't worry - she also ate a breadstick, a rice cake with vache qui rit on, some grapes and cherry tomatoes that I cut in half, and some cucumber sticks. I can't remember what she ate for dinner though, sorry!

Here's a photo of Hannah and trifle - the trifle has been fighting back...

...but not as much as the beans fought back yesterday!

On Friday she ate cheerios for breakfast, then had beans on toast and rice pudding for lunch before we set off to her great uncle's for the afternoon. While we were there she ate some grapes, a bit of bread and marmite, some boursin on bread, and a slice of quiche.

The quiche was quite crumbly, so she didn't do all that well with it, but the rest was fine and she managed nicely. Then after she'd finished I was eating trifle and she was trying to nab bits off me, so I shared it with her while she was sat on my knee. That was I think the first time I've actually tried to spoon feed her rather than have her feed herself, as she wasn't wearing a bib and we were sat on someone else's sofa! Hannah wasn't that impressed with being fed, and she kept on trying to take the spoon off me - I usually let her have it once the majority of trifle was safely in her mouth.

Boxing Day food

Hannah had a funny day yesterday. She ate cheerios for breakfast as normal, and ate loads of them too.

For lunch she had beans on toast followed by rice pudding, and did pretty well with that. The beans she seems to pick up one or two at a time, and carefully squeeze them in her hand until they pop out of her palm onto the side between her thumb and index finger, where she carefully eats them from. Cheerios are dealt with in much the same way.

Dinner didn't go down very well really. It was left over Christmas dinner, but most of it ended up on the floor or generally spattered around. She was very tired - a result of not napping very well - and not in the mood for solid food much at all.

She's had a cold for what seems like weeks now, and is still suffering with a runny nose and a cough. I think this is making her less interested in her solid feeds, it's definitely making her naps shorter, as she can't self-settle by sucking her thumb on account of not being able to breathe at the same time. Medised is helping, but any other suggestions very welcome :o)

A repeat of yesterday

Poor Hannah had almost exactly the same food put in front of her today as she had yesterday. I blame the cold that the entire family now has, we all feel a bit manky, boo hiss. Hannah's Medised and our Lemsips do seem to be working though!

So anyway, breakfast was cheerios of course, lunch was sweet potato, carrot and parsnip, oatcakes and hummus, and tea was beans on toast followed by rice pudding. She definitely likes both beans and rice pudding, and I think she'd have eaten the entire (big) tin of rice pudding given half a chance. As you can see from the picture, she was firmly of the opinion that I hadn't given her enough, and she was forced to suck the leftovers off her bib...

She's been extra tired today, because of her cold, so hasn't eaten a huge amount but - to my surprise - has still been interested in her food. The breastfeeds have been much longer than in the past week or two, presumably to make up the calories she's not getting from her solid food at the moment. Feeds today were lasting around 15-20 minutes, rather than the 6 or 7 minutes that's become normal during the day. At least I got a chance to sit down for a bit longer than normal! :o)

A fruitful day

Not bad today. Despite her cold, Hannah tucked into her cheerios this morning, and got on fairly well with her lunch which was sweet potato, carrot, parsnip and peas followed by a clementine.
It was the first time she'd tried peas, and she was quite nonplussed to start with. Turns out peas are quite wily, and they kept running around the tray while Hannah chased them down. She did eventually manage to pick them up, and seemed to like them once they made it into her mouth. Everything else on the menu was an old favourite, and she tucked in, although not with quite as much gusto as normal, I guess because of her cold.

For tea (after our Christmas shopping expedition) she had a quick slice of beans on toast, and a rice cake with unsalted butter and marmite on. She really went for the marmite this time, and the beans too. Still not much progress with the toast, it's basically a disposable plate as far as Hannah's concerned. Having said that, she did actually bite a small piece off the toast today, but spat it out after a couple of chews. The beans were a different variety today, too. We bought Branston 50% bigger beans, which I thought might be easier for her to pick up. To be honest they didn't seem much bigger, so if they weren't the same price anyway it wouldn't be worth it I don't think.

Here's a pic of Hannah chasing her peas at lunchtime:
